It's official!  With permits finally in hand, Wanda and a small group of family and friends held a ground breaking ceremony on a rainy Sunday, March 25th.  This emotional event cumulated a long and often arduous journey for Wanda and her family.  Over the next few weeks, contractors will begin sculpting the new ball field that will memorialize Ronnie Legore and be a welcome addition to Mayeski Park.

The Ronnie Legore Activities Park Inc. was formed in memory of a pillar in the community who succumb to the ills of cancer on March 19, 2002.  Ronnie lived his entire short 49 years in Winfield, he was a South Carroll alumni and proud member of the United States Marine Corps.  He was a very active member of the Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department serving 32 years, ten as Chief.  In May 2004 Ronnie was posthumously inducted into the Carroll County Volunteer Fireman’s Hall of Fame.

Among other passions of Ronnie’s was playing softball, doing so for some 28 years.  Following his passing, his wife Wanda along with family and friends wanted to construct a 300’ softball field as a tribute to him.  In December 2002, The Ronnie Legore Activities Park Incorporated was created and formalized as a 501-C Non-profit organization.

On September 28, 2011, in corroboration with the Carroll County Department of Recreation and Parks and the Winfield Recreation Council, the Carroll County Board of Education approved the construction of the Ronnie Legore multipurpose field with construction tentatively to begin in the spring of 2012.

Over the past 9 years, the organization has raised almost $130,000.00 towards the construction of a softball field, but it still needs your help.   It is estimated that costs to complete this endeavor with be at approximately $200,000.00.  This is a self funded project with no taxpayer funds being utilized.  Please consider a donation or supporting one of the many fundraisers that are ongoing or upcoming.
