WINFIELD REC COUNCIL MEETING

MARCH 12, 2001

Gary Davis called meeting to order.  The minutes from the 1/22/01 meeting were reviewed and approved the board.

 

Board Elections: Open Positions: Vice President    and Treasurer

Nominations were:    Vice President:         Jean Shea

                                                                        Dan Nichols

                                                                        Rusty Denney

Treasurer:                 Carol Waters

 

After a written vote, Jean Shea was elected Vice President and Carol Waters was elected Treasurer each for a two year term.

 

President:      (1)  Gary wanted to welcome Dave Taylor as Webmaster.  New Winfield website is

                                   Winfieldrec.org.  Need input from all programs to keep site current.  Possibly do

                                   online Registration.

(2)    Distributed list of Winfield volunteers registered with County and noted make sure

all volunteers complete form and return to board.

(3)  Carroll County Rec has adopted a “No Smoking Policy”   during any youth

       recreation activities (indoor or out)  Gary noted we will ask county to supply

       signs for Mayeski Park.  Actual policy handled out to all programs.

(4)  Use of facility plan – If snow emergency goes into eff 12:01 – school’s closed and  

       facilities are not available.

(5)  A Boy Scout has requested to paint back mtg room and put in drop ceiling as Eagle  

       Project – expect to start next week or so

 

Secretary:      (1)   Fundraiser: Will check into basket bingo and basket lottery – any suggestions

        Welcome

 

Treasurer:      (1)  $11,110.80 in checking  and $7,347.00 in Savings

(2)   Outstanding  -- soccer share of BG&E cost $ 285.61

(3)   Outstanding  -- proposed budgets for baseball and softball.

 

Patti  Taylor:   (1)   Use of facilities by email is working well.  Cannot do next day meetings.

(2)   Will do Easter Egg Hunt Saturday before Easter.  Will get prizes from Oriental

        Trade, Jackie and Lesa said will help

 

Wrestling:       (1)  Steve advised season near closing, had 90 wrestlers.  11 wrestlers went to states, had      

      One state Champion, Bryn Holmes

                        (2)  Year end banquet 3/20 @ SC Cafeteria

(3)  Want to purchase mat for Linton Springs,  advised to get pricing and see if we can

        submit for self help $$

(3)   Need more facilities use next year. 

 

Soccer:           (1)   Bob advised had 4 teams for Spring soccer, will have May registration

(2)   Asked about 2nd field at Linton, Gary still awaiting answer from freedom

(3)   Wanted to amend name of soccer inhouse and travel to same for uniformity.  Need to bring proposal of name changes to next mtg for approval by board.

 

Softball:          (1)  Registration completed  -- have 150 girls, down from past year of 230, still have               

      enough for in-house

                        (2) Season starts 4/1

(4)   Parents meeting Thursday

(5)   Softball Dance Saturday, 4/21  9-1 @ Winfield $15PP

 

Baseball:        (1)  Registration completed – down approximately 80 players.

(2)   Draft Day Saturday, practices start after that

(3)   Thanked Dave for website help   Baseball--  winfieldbaseball.org

 

Football:         (1)  Registrations are in May and June

(2)   Hope to have better season than last.

 

Karate:           (1)   Wed nights are working well

(2)   Doing workshop in Frederick

(3)   Will get w/ Patty for summer schedule

 

Square Dance:          (1)  Going well

                        (2)  Will get w/ Pattyifor summer schedule

 

Basketball:     (1)  Jean said season almost over

(2)   Joe wanted to check into fiberglass back boards @ Linton.  It was decided to defer

                              until next season due to asst. principal change.

(3)   Bob said interested in gym type of BB clinic for 1-2nd grade. He’ll get w/ Jean on

      gym times.
